The Future Inspector was introduced in the episode "Bedlam of the Blorgons". He was played by English actor Nicholas Briggs in Series 7.
Bedlam of the Blorgons
This mysterious figure calling himself "the Future Inspector" meets the Eleventh Inspector during the latter's investigation of reports that "inmates are running the asylum" on the planet known as Bedlam. Giving the Inspector a few clues about his own future, he also helps him, Geneva, and Sidney Sidwell—a woman who was secretly a Blorgon in a human's body—blow up the Blorgons, although he sacrifices himself in the explosion. In the final scene, the Inspector discovers that he had also embedded the Inspector's old cover name in the Blorgons' data network, giving him and Geneva the opportunity to make their escape.
Trivia
- While the Inspector's standard cover name in the new series had been "Fred Bloggs" up to this point, this episode re-stablished it as the classic series' "Joe Bloggs", which would be picked up in the episode "The Alias of the Inspector".
- Unexpectedly, Nicholas Briggs proved to be a controversial piece of stunt-casting by showrunner Stefan Toffat because of his close association with That Ripoff. (Toffat's excuse was that Briggs only supplies voiceovers for it, so he technically has not appeared on it.) Some Inspectrum fans refuse to count him as an Infinity Knight and argue that he is obviously just another one of Bedlam's loonies, while others consider him their favourite from the new series.
