|The Future Inspector|
|Planet of Origin:||Kayaclasch|
|Appears In:||Bedlam of the Blorgons|
|Portrayed By:||Nicholas Briggs|
The Future Inspector was introduced in the episode "Bedlam of the Blorgons". He was played by English actor Nicholas Briggs in Series 7.
Bedlam of the Blorgons[edit | edit source]
This mysterious figure calling himself "the Future Inspector" meets the Eleventh Inspector during the latter's investigation of reports that "inmates are running the asylum" on the planet known as Bedlam. Giving the Inspector a few clues about his own future, he also joins in to assist him, Geneva, and his own ersatz 'partner', Sydney (a woman who claims she is secretly "a Blorgon trapped in a human's body"). Together, they manage to blow up the Blorgons, although the Future Inspector and Syndey sacrifice themselves while setting off the explosion.
In the final scene, the Inspector discovers that the Future Inspector had also substituted the Inspector's current cover name with his old one in the Blorgons' data network, providing him and Geneva with an opportunity to make their escape.
The Future Inspector later appeared in "Life in Hell", apparently a prisoner of 'Sydney', though even he was unable to anticipate her eventual betrayal in favour of her true goal.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- While the Inspector's standard cover name in the new series had been "Fred Bloggs" up to this point, this episode re-stablished it as the classic series' "Joe Bloggs", which foreshadowed the episode "The Alias of the Inspector".
- Unexpectedly, Nicholas Briggs proved to be a controversial piece of stunt-casting by showrunner Stefan Toffat because of his close association with That Ripoff. (Toffat's excuse was that Briggs only supplies voiceovers for it, so he technically has not appeared on it.) Some Inspectrum fans refuse to count him as an Infinity Knight and argue that he is obviously just another one of Bedlam's loonies, while others consider him their favourite from the new series.
