Sergeant Tom Fenton of Exo-Pol's London Branch was a recurrent associate of the Second, Third, and Fourth Inspector, most notably during the Fourth's reassignment to late 20th-century Earth. He was played by John Flanagan.

Adventures with the Inspector

Tom Fenton debuted in the Second Inspector serial "The Revolution", as a special constable seconded to Exo-Pol's Paris branch for the investigation of techno-riots by the Circuit-Chaps. In his next appearance in "The Envoys of Entropy", he had been promoted to Sergeant and would become the ever-reliable righthand man of Superintendent Irvine Leith. The by-the-book Midlands police officer would later clash with "cowboy cop" Detective Inspector Gary Mulligan, however.

During his time with Exo-Pol, Fenton investigates several alien schemes, including those by the Asterozoids, the Blorgons, the Ocean Demons, and, to people's occasional confusion, the renegade Infinity Knight known as the Sergeant.

Trivia

  • In addition to his acting career, Flanagan also wrote for television, including the serial "Meglos" of That Ripoff. While he did not allude to the series's rivalry with Inspector Spacetime, he did name one character "Brotadac", which is an anagram of 'bad actor'.
